Funeral service for W.O. (Babe) Akin, 62 years old widely known former resident of Westville (father of Neil Akin, widley known business man of Westville) who died Wednesday night, March 18, in the Stilwell hospital, after a long illness, was conducted Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gordon Spencer, pastor of the Stilwell Methodist church, officiating, assisted by Rev. E.E.Stockwell, pastor of the local Baptist church. Burial was in the Foreman cemetery.
Pall bearers included Cy Curtis, Mr. Lamons, Billy Baleau, all of Tahlequah and three other men from Broken Bow district, all representing the Gand and Fish Commission, of which Mr. Akin was a member. Those in charge of flowere were Mrs. John Henderson, Mrs Dorothy Shankel, Mrs Fay Johnson, Beulah Alberty, Betty Carson, Lelia Edminston, Lela B. Fenno, Ann Tennant and Mrs. Kate Haddock.
A quartette composed of Mrs. Charles Brooks, Mrs. George Murray, Fred Allison and Cletis Odle, sang two request songs, with Mrs. Robert Effenberger at the piano.
Mr. Akin was born February 27, 1891 in Westville and had lived here many years. His home was at Broken Bow (at the time of his death) but he had come to Westville several weeks ago to be near his son, Neil Akin and two sisters, Mrs. Mode Hamblin and Mrs. Ray Lawrence.
Other survivors include his widow of the home, one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Jean Painter, of Illinois; two other sisters, Mrs. Fred Williams, Grove,OK, and Mrs. Louise Fickle of Oklahoma City; 5 grandchildren and some step children.
