Born on Nov. 13, 1913, in Centreville, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Emma Mullikin Stubbs. She attended the Little Red School House in Longwoods, where she would walk to school. It is then that she would come home to assist her mother with the family and help on the family farm.
Mildred worked at the local sewing factory and the dry cleaning plant; thereafter, taking a position with Memorial Hospital at Easton, where she remained for 50 years.
She worked as the supervisor of the linens department; later receiving employee of the year in 1983. At the age of 91, she was forced to stop working at the hospital and in return she was presented with a plaque from President George W. Bush for her 50 years of dedicated service at the hospital.
In the early 1930s, Mildred married her husband Tilghman Matthew Chaplain and they resided in Talbot County for the remainder of their life.
