Timothy L. Carson, 13781 Oak View Drive, Meadville, succumbed to prostate cancer after a lengthy battle on Jan. 15, 2010.He was born at his grandparents home in Sunville, Venango County, Oct. 6, 1946.Tim graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1964. He joined the Regular Army after high school and became an E-5 radio repairman. He held top secret crypto-clearance while stationed at Cantow, South Vietnam. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., for 16 months before his honorable discharge.Tim returned home to Venango County and bought his first farm. He milked cows while working at American Viscose (which became Avtex Fibers Inc.) and continued part-time farming while working as a residential service aide for the state until his cancer diagnosis. He moved into the city of Franklin in 1997 and continued to work at Polk Center until retiring at the end of October 2008.Tim loved his family (which included more than just blood relatives), growing roses, and he had a great passion for music – both listening and playing. He especially enjoyed playing the organ and concertina, at which he was quite talented.Since retiring, Tim raised chickens, gardened, continued to raise beautiful roses, and played the keyboard and organ. He attended Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church in Saegertown, but his heart and membership were with the Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, where he learned to be a kind and generous person while growing up. Though 2009 was a difficult year, Tim lived happily through his illness, even after he was diagnosed in May 1996, at the age of 49. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body and spirit, and Tim had a positive outlook which helped him be a cancer warrior for more than a decade.Among those blessed to be a part of Tim's family and who survive him are countless friends, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He will be especially missed by his mother, Lillian Carson of Franklin; his friend and spouse, Diane, of Meadville; two sisters, Ruthanne (Mrs. Jerry Boughner Sr.) of Cooperstown and Beth Gordon of Oil City; his Uncle Herb (and Aunt Peg) Snyder of Cooperstown; his Aunt Annabelle Whitman of Franklin; his nieces and nephews, Leanne (Mrs. Tom Prichard) of Dempseytown; Jerry Boughner Jr. ( and his wife, Denise) of Cooperstown; Lauren Osgood (and her husband, Steven) of Florida; Joni Cramer, and Kari Osborne (and her husband, Shawn) all of Franklin.He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert (Bill) Carson in the summer of 2009; his paternal grandparents, Tempa and Isaac Carson; his maternal grandparents, Le Vern and Clara Snyder; an infant brother; an infant sister; and his best canine friend, Sparky.Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin.Funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Kelly Nelson of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church officiating.Internment will be at Bethel Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his father.The family request that donations be made in his memory to the Crawford County Hospice, which served his wife in her time of need, and/or the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church, which served him well on his walk to heaven, or other cancer charity of one's choice.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.gardinierfuneralhome.com.
