(March 10, 1919 - January 14, 2010)

Gertrude "Gertie" Fields Shaw, age 90, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010, in Ozark Mountain Regional Healthcare Center, Crane, Missouri.

She was born March 10, 1919, in Susank, Kansas, the daughter of Warren and Laura (Shell) Sellens.

On May 25, 1935, in Cassville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jessie A. Fields, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1982.

Several years later she married Earl Shaw, who also preceded her in death.

Others preceding her in death were her parents; three daughters, Barbara E. McComb, Velma E. Fields Leabo and Zelma Baleso; one granddaughter; three brothers, Warren, Richard and Roy H. Sellens and one sister, Dorothy Radke.

Surviving are one daughter, Helen Watts and her husband, Earl of Shell Knob; one sister, Mary Walston of Palestine, Texas; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Gertie, as most people knew her, received her education in Kansas and finished in Galena, Missouri.

She owned and operated a restaurant in Quenemo, Kansas for one year and worked in a restaurant in Ottawa, Kansas several years. After moving to Shell Knob in 2003, she worked in a restaurant a short time.

Some of her favorite pastimes were crocheting, needlework, cooking, gardening and dancing.

She was an active member of Shell Knob First Baptist Church, a life-time member of VFW Auxiliary #5901, Ottawa, Kansas and the Eagles Auxiliary in Ottawa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 17, 2010, in Shell Knob First Baptist Church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob with Pastor Bob Gaddis officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2010, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Bob Gaddis will conduct the services.
