He was the son of Rev. Eli and Sophronia (Tyler) Clark.
He attended Green Mountain Seminary, but unable to hear instruction but in one ear due to hearing loss suffered in the War, he was advised to leave school, and enter upon the work.
He was licensed in 1874, and ordained in 1876. He was a member of the General Conference of Freewill Baptist in 1880.
He married Eunice G. Wells in 1865, who died in 1873.
In 1875 he married Miss Sarah Swift. He had one child, born in 1867.
