After a year long battle with lung cancer, Sally Anne Holland, 72, died surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 9:18 p.m. Sally was born January 1, 1938 in Lowell, Ohio.


She is predeceased by her parents M. Colette Bowden (1990), William Bowden (1965), and her son David Holland (1979).


Sally was a sophomore at Immaculata Seminary for Girls when she met her future husband, Joseph R. Holland. Sally later graduated from Immaculata Junior College and attended Trinity College in Burlington, VT. Joe and Sally were married on September 13, 1958 and recently celebrated their fifty-first anniversary.


Sally was a lifelong volunteer, actively involved in St. Augustine's Church as a Religious Ed teacher, Eucharistic Minister to the sick and active in the Parish Pro-Life committee since 1985.


She has also been an active volunteer for the Red Cross. Jayncees, Girl Scouts, Parish World Youth Days with Pope John Paul II, Board Member Mental Health Assoc. Pro-Life, Navy Relief, and BSA. She recently became a professed member of the SAR which is the Secular Augustine Recollects at Tagaste Monastery.


Surviving family members include her husband, former Senator, Joseph R. Holland, her ten children, son Joseph R. III of New City, a son Steve and Lori Holland of Brick, NJ, a daughter Gina and Bob Waldo of Arizona, son Mark of Stony Point, daughter Catherine and Ben Harris of Randolph, NJ, daughter Colette and Kevin Fallon of Washingtonville, daughter Sarah and Craige Duran of New City,son Douglas and Toni-Ann Holland of Bardonia, daughter Liz and Paul Bartlett of New City, eighteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.


Friends may call on Thursday and Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, NY. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church, 140 Maple Avenue New City, NY.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Anthony's Cemetery, 34 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY.
