Jimmy Mahaffey was born in 1948 in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, and attended Hot Springs public schools. After graduating from Hot Springs High School, Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 1966, Jimmy attended and later graduated from the North Texas State University. He became a teacher in Dallas. He died there at age 39.

FAMILY
Jimmy's parents were Helen Benedict Mahaffey (1914-1975) and James B. Mahaffey (1920-1986). Both died in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She is buried at Greenwood Cemetery and he is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

His grandfather was Louis Benedict, a well known bakery owner in Hot Springs, and his great uncles were Billy Gross, a German immigrant who settled in Hot Springs and later operated Gross Undertaking Company, and Frank Gross, who operated a large general store in Black Springs, Arkansas.
