Jesse Willes, a pioneer resident of Uintah County died at his home in Davis Ward Tuesday evening, as a result of influenza pneumonia. The disease visited his family striking all the members with the exception of _________. Mr. Willes was a good father and husband and a peaceful neighbor. It is said of him he never had an enemy and that he was a man who always avoided any altercations or arguments.
The deceased was 60 years of age and was born May 20, 1858 at Lehi, Utah. he moved to this valley in 18_6. A year later he was married to Florence Slaugh. Thirteen children were born to this happy couple, seven of whom survive as follows: Simpson Willes, Mrs. Florence Southam. Genevera, Frances, Myrtle, Ida and Hallie Willes all living in this valley.
Since coming here he has lived in Davis Ward continually, being a successful farmer of that locality. He carried the mail from Vernal to Jensen for four years which necessitated his living at Jensen.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Vernal cemetery. George Slaugh conducting. Bishop Batty was the only speaker and offered comforting words to the bereaved family and sketched the life of the deceased. The dedicatory prayer was offered by Bishop A. G. Goodrich and the opening prayer by Edward Watkins Sr. A chorus from the ____ ward choir furnished the music. The members of the chorus were Bishop A. G. Goodrich, Lewis A. Gardiner, Lavel Manwarring, Laura Goodrich, Mrs. A. M. Goodrich.
