Bryan J Roberts, a son of John and Phoebe Roberts (Vol. 1), was born in Wayne County, June 4, 1809. In 1827, the family moved to Lowndes County where the subject was married January 26, 1832 to Wealthly A., daughter of James and Rhoda (Monk) Mathis who in those days lived where the village of Cecil, Cook County, is now located. Mrs. Roberts was born in 1813 in Bulloch County. To Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were born twelve children:

Mr. Roberts served in the Indian War of 1836-1838 and was a private in Capt. Levi J. Knight's company of Lowndes County militia. He was ensign of the militia, 663rd district of Lowndes, 1827-1829. His only civil office was that of Justice of Peace in the 658th district, Lowndes County, 1834-1837.
Mr. Roberts home place was located eight miles north of Valdosta on the old Milltown and Ray City public road, and was originally settled by his father, John Roberts, when the latter first moved to Lowndes in 1827. He had a large plantation and lived in comfortable circumstances.
Mrs. Roberts died June 19th, 1888 and less than three weeks later, Mr. Roberts died (July 8th, following). They were buried at Cat Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
