LaVern C. Bartels age 79 years of Barneston, died Sunday April 1, 2001 at the Beatrice Community Hospital. He was born May 19 1921 near Bremen in Marshall County, Kansas. He spent his childhood there and north of Herkimer. He married Anna Margaret Eggert on September 25 1947 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Wymore. They lived in Odell where he was employed by Callan Brothers, and then they lived at Beatrice where he was employed by Sargent's. He had been a self-employed mechanic in Barneston for many years. After the death of his first wife Anna he married Elizabeth Eggert Anderson Hall on December 14, 1983 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; by three brothers, Authur Bartels and wife Ilene of Holton Kansas; Richard Bartels and wife Martha and Ivan Bartels and wife Sharon all of Marysville Kansas; by four sisters Viola Kannarr of Algona Washington; Minnie Purtek and her husband Joe of St. Joseph Missouri and Dorothy Erdmann and husband Stielf of Wymore; and Juanita Bartels of Beatrice; by two stepsons Virgil Anderson of Beatrice and Harold Anderson by one step grandson; and by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry C. and Elsie Dora (Remmers) Bartels; by his first wife Anna on September 16 1983 and by one niece.
