Jacob Burris was married first to Christina Hiatt, in Ohio, Feb. 22, 1822; and married Mrs. Charlotte Wilson on July 11, 1872 in Henry Co., IN.
He was the father of ten children, eight boys and two girls, all by his first wife. They were Henry Mims, Stephen, Elias, Lucinda, John, Elwood, Rachel, Arthur Miller, Oliver, & an unknown male.
Notes from Arthur Miller Burris:
"Jacob Burris my Father was born in North Carolina came to Highland Co Ohio and there grew to manhood in 1824 came west to Henry Co Indiana near where Knightstown is now located. There he entered land $1.25 per acre my Mother got one hundred dollars from John Hiatt her father the next day father went to Indianapolis and entered 80 acres more land the receiver told father that was the first entry made since the land office moved from Brookville to Indianapolis."
