Hardcastle Rites Held
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Walter Hardcastle, 76, Killeen laundry owner, who died Sunday afternoon at his home here following a short illness.

He lived at 1002 Brewster and owned a help-yourself laundry also on Brewster.

Services were held at the Chanslor-Young Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Don Dyer, pastor of East Side Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Killeen Cemetery.

Hardcastle was born Nov. 30 1880 (sic 1879) and had lived in Killeen most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Oma Mills of Killeen, Mrs. Roscoe Wilkerson of Colorado City, Texas, Mrs. A.G. Board of Dallas and Mrs. H.A. Davis of Lampasas; and three sons L.W. Hardcastle of Sedona, Arizona, Jack Hardcastle of Killeen and Howard Hardcastle of Colorado City. Another son Raymond preceeded his father in death.

Recollections of Walter by grandson Larry B Hardcastle
Walter was a good natured man with an easy going likeable disposition. He smoked a pipe. In his later years, Walter suffered from low blood pressure and was comfortably dressed in woolen shirts in the summer time. While Mrs. Hardcastle suffered from high blood pressure and would perspire in spite of air conditioning and comfortable summer clothing. They could never agree on a comfortable room temperature.
Once Walter won a new Pontiac Automobile in 1949 on a raffle ticket. His son, Jack remembered his ticket number and ran from the football stadium to get Walter as he only lived a few blocks from the stadium. Walter became a celebrity and thereafter was constantly seeking reasons to leave the house to 'pick up raffle tickets'.
