He was raised and educated in Sharon, VT and was married on the 19th day of August, 1819 to Miss Almira Latham in the town of Royalton, VT where they lived six years when they emigrated to Athens Co., OH, where he lived nine years. In Oct. 1838, he removed with his family from Ohio to North Liberty, Iowa Territory (at the time) , Muscatine Co. This town, he and his brother William platted building log cabins in the woods, til they could clear and built the streets of the town. Later, several cousins followed from Ohio, Eliza Bagley, Nancy Morrow, his sister, wife of Jacob Morrow, the Chesebro's, and all of William's children. In 1844 he removed to Cedar County and settled on a farm where he lived for 6 years, when he moved his residence to the town of Tipton, where he died.
