J L Betchan born Jan 5 1879 in Hartsville, Indiana -died Jun 30, 1948. His cafe was located beneath the Rexall Drug Store on the corner of Broadway and North Second Street. He later sold Hot Tamales on the street "Hot tamales, get'em while we got'em..only a few more left...Get'em while they're HOT"


May 27, 1915 article Hollis Post-Herald, Hollis, Harmon County, Oklahoma JIM BETCHAN moved his restaurant from the basement of Hollis Drug Store to the PENDERGRAFT-NELSON building on the south side. This building is also occupied by the Post-Herald. Jim has been in the restaurant business here for years. He and his family came here about 7 years ago and he went to work in a butcher shop at $50 per month as meat cutter. He worked 11 months then began selling tamales. He has two of the best restaurant men in the state--CLAUDE BROWN and OBE CUMMINGS. Mr. Brown is one of the cooks that ever fried a steak. Mr.Cummings is a hasher that cannot be excelled.
