Mike Wright,age 83, of Dilley passed away on Friday, July 24,2009 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn in 2008, his parents Eugene Clark and Lela Elizabeth(Hensley) Wright, sisters Louise Friesen and Claudia Shearer. He is survived by his children; Dee Wright of Dilley, Clint Wright and wife Bonnie of Dilley, Libby Elrod and husband Tom of Edinburg;sisters: Margaret Jeffers of Harlingen, Nell Lewis of Ft. Worth, Olene Penner and husband Abner of Kingsburg, Ca and Jeanie Wilkinson of Premont, Tx; Three grandchildren; Krisy Elrod, Jody Elrod and Mattie Ann Wright, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Wright had been in the Navy during WWII as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS Independence. While serving abroad the Independence he participated in several major battles in the South Pacific. After WWII he attended Texas A & I in Kingsville, he worked for Tennessee Oil and Gas as a surveyor. He was sent to New York, but decided after three days it was too cold and came back to the warmth of Texas. He worked as a ranchers, managed feedlots operations, and worked at vaarious cattle auctions. He was involved with his children's hobbies and activities including; Edinburg High School Band Boosters as an officer and went on numerous trips as chaperone; supporter of his son Stock Car Racing Team; and since moving to Dilley he has been a supporter of the Championship Team Chillin' and Grillin' at the La Salle County Wild Hog Cook Off. He loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home in Pearsall.
