D.D. Poindexter Dies as Prisoner

Through information obtained by the Red Cross and forwarded to the family, it was learned today that Pfc. Delbert D. Poindexter of Panhandle, who was a member of the United States Army, died in a Japanese prison camp. The date of his death was not announced.

Pfc. Poindexter became a prisoner of war with the fall of the Philippine Islands. He was taken to a Japanese camp at Mukden, Menchukuo, according to the Red Cross dispatch to the family.

The Panhandle youth who was 25 years old enlisted in the army at Amarillo on Nov. 13, 1939.

Survivors are: the mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Poindexter of Springtown; two sisters, Mrs. Monroe Southard and Mrs. Edgard Telchik, both of O'Donnell; three brothers, Cpt. James W. Poindexter of Camp Gruber, Okla., Pfc. David Archle Poindexter, somewhere in North Africa, and Virgil L. Poindexter of 2109 North West First Ave., Amarillo.
