PLAINWELL - Doris "Grandma Doe" went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo MI. Doris was born November 22, 1926, in Kalamazoo MI to Horace & Stella (Austin) Kirkland. She is survived by her children: Melvin (Luanne) Valkner, Chuck (Donna) Valkner, Rich (Leslie) Valkner; her stepchildren: Chris, Jeff, Della, Rhonda and Angie; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews; Doris is proceeded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond Valkner and her second husband Clyde Steele; her twin sister Dorothy Porter; her sons: Jack Valkner and Donald Valkner. Doris was the glue that held her family together. She was a very caring and thoughtful person with a strong faith in God. Her kindness was unlike any other. Doris was the second oldest kayaker on Mackinaw Island. She liked to travel with Hawaii being a favorite spot. She would sew, crochet and garden in her younger years. A gathering and funeral service was held on Monday, November 22 at the McCowen & Secord funeral home; Marshall & Gren Chapel in Plainwell.
