Lester 'Pete' Lehrke, 78
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 6, 2004 for Lester Lehrke, 78, of Norwood Young America. He died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at Elim Nursing Home in Watertown. He was born March 19, 1925 in Mayer, the son of Edward A. and Clara B. (Lenz)Lehrke. He was baptized on April 26, 1925 at St. John’s Lutheran Church and confirmed April 2, 1938 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School. On Feb. 24, 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army at Ft. Snelling, Minn., He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Japan Army of Occupation Ribbon. He served until his Honorable Discharge on Dec. 16, 1945 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. He married Ruth H. Wolter on July 18, 1945 at St. Paul’s Ev. Reformed Church. The couple made their home in Young America. He was employed at Northern States Power Company with the Montevideo division based out of Young America beginning in 1952. In 1965 he transferred to the Minnetonka division until his retirement on July 31, 1986. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, bowling, hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his country and community. He was a member of both the VFW Post 1783 and American Legion Post 343.
He was preceded in death by parents Edward and Clara Lehrke, and son-in-law Timothy Burlingame.
He is survived by wife Ruth Lehrke of Norwood Young America, daughters Sharilyn Feltmann (husband Wayne) of Norwood Young America, Shirley Jannusch of Coon Rapids, Susan Higgins (husband Butch)of Wilcox, Arizona and Sandra Caldwell of Eden Prairie; grandchildren Ross Feltmann, Ryan Feltmann, Matthew Jannusch (wife Sharon), Christa Watson (husband Josh), and Alex Caldwell; great grandchildren Chase Feltmann, Kayla Feltmann, Joshie Watson, brothers Leslie Lehrke (wifeGlenna) of New Germany and Leonard C. Lehrke (wife Ardes) of Norwood Young America, as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 6 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, the Rev. Scott Gustafson officiating. Interment with military honors was in the Mau Cemetery in Norwood Young America. Casketbearers were Lynis Lehrke, Ronald Lehrke, Lyle Lehrke, Wayne Lehrke, Leonard L. Lehrke and Russell Harms.
