Miss Nancy Smith was born in Maine, March 18th, 182?. She was married to Patrick Bennett in the year 1838. They followed the tide of emigration westward and settled on a homestead in Rock Creek precinct in 1871. Her husband died in February 1896. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. G. S. Lambert until last September when she went to live with another daughter, Mrs. C. J. Haggerman at McCook, Neb. She had an appopletic stroke Jan. 17 and Jan. 24 died, aged 79 years, 10 months and 6 days. She was laid to rest in the Rock Creek cemetery, which is located partly in the homestead where she had made her home for years, Jan. 26. Rev. Smith of Ceresco, preaching her funeral. She leaves to mourn her loss, 7 children, 27 grand children, 39 great grandchildren and one great-great-grand child."
