Antiquary, Legal Reporter at Inner Temple, London, F.R.S., F.S.A. He was Vice President and twice briefly President of the Royal Society. As a legal reporter, he wrote and published reports of the decisions of significant cases of English legal system. His collection, Reports of cases argued and determined in the court of king's bench during the time of Lord Mansfield's presiding, covering the years 1756-72, was published in five volumes between 1766 and 1780.
