Church and after ordination in 1846 he became rector of St Mark's Episcopal Church, Frankford until 1853 and assistant priest of St Matthew's Church, Francisville,Philadelphia until 1855. He became the first rector of S. Clement's Church, Philadelphia from 1856 to 1863.
