Army Spc Whitsitt was assigned to the 118th Military Police Company (Airborne), 503rd Military Police Battalion (Airborne), 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He died of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device in a convoy. Geoff loved the outdoors and could always be found running through the woods and fields near his home, camping, hunting or going fishing with his dad. He was home schooled through the 9th grade and then graduated from Greenville Technical Charter High School in 2007. Geoff was a little guy but had a tough inner core – he always dreamed of becoming a Ranger since the age of 4. He had a big attitude part of the time but had a wonderfully compassionate heart. Geoff was a cross country runner, delivered Meals on Wheels, participated in Greenville Singing Christmas Tree and was a member of Furman University Children's Chorus. Here in Geoff's own words is how he describes himself:

About me: My name is Geoff. Im an MP in the United States Army. Im also Airborne, so Im pretty bad as my Sgt. Airborne told me. I love the Army. I honestly cant wait to deploy. People say Im crazy, but hey, thats what I signed up for, right? I love fishing, hiking, reading (every once in a while), shooting guns, blowing stuff up, PT, I LOVE country music. Camping is always fun. Every man and woman who has ever or who does wear a uniform for the United States military, no matter what branch, they are all my heroes.
