Mrs. Christopher Smith died at the family residence July 4, at 8 o'clock a.m. She was in good health till Wednesday, June 29, when she was walking in the garden with her husband, she suddenly called out to him to take hold of her. He caught her just in time to prevent her from falling. When she was brought into the house it was ascertained she had had a stroke of paralysis rendering her entirely helpless. The funeral took place at the Presbyterian church Thursday, at 3 p.m. and from there to Mound Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born at Ottery, St. Mary, Devonshire county, England, in 1819. Her maiden name was Anna Murch. She was married to Mr. Smith in 1842, and with her husband removed to the State of Pennsylvania in (can't read the date). From there they went to New York in 1855, and in 1858 they came to this city where they have resided ever since. She was a member of the Presbyterian church from her childhood and was always an earnest and devoted christian worker. Her death was a great loss to her many devoted friends and co-workers in the community. She leaves a husband and five children-four sons and one daughter, all grown. This family has been sorely afflicted the past year. Not many months ago a daughter, married but a short time, died, and now the mother. The sympathy of the community is with them in their sorrow.
