Leon was a member of the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company C and served in Tunisia. On April 3, 1943, he chose to stay at a forward observing post exposed to enemy fire so he could continue to radio enemy positions to his company's artillery. A n enemy mortar shell killed him.
