Frieda W. (Armantrout) Palmer, 91, died Dec. 20, 1997, at Sandpiper Bay Health and Retirement Center, Wichita.
She was born May 17, 1906, in Lane County, the daughter of Henry and Mary Strickert Uppendahl. She attended Dighton Public School, was a 1925 graduate of Dighton High School and attended special training in Chicago, where she specialized in pediatrics. A Wichita resident since 1974, having lived at Garden City and Hoisington, she began her nursing career working at Sterling Hospital during the 1930s, later working at St Luke's Hospital, Wellington, in the 1940s, and she also assisted her husband, Dr. Leonard Armantrout, in his practice. She belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Wichita, and was formerly active in various civic clubs.
On March 26, 1947, she married Dr. Leonard ARMANTROUT. He died Jan. 26, 1972. In 1977, she married W. O. "Bill" PALMER at Wichita. He died in 1987.
Survivors include: a stepson, Brian Armantrout, Carlisle, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Betty Sanders, Bloomington, Minn.; a brother, Henry Uppendahl, Pueblo, Colo.; a sister, Selma Schmalzried, Dighton, and 12 step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jonas and Otto Uppendahl; two sisters, Marie Zerener and Hulda Bockelman, and a stepson, Bruce Armantrout.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Prairie View Church of the Brethren, Friend, with Pastor Warm Rikard presiding.
Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Friend. Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Prairie View Church of the Brethren, Friend.
