Robert and Betsey Matilda Mead

Robert was born, married and lived his entire life in Washington County Indiana. Betsey was born in Floyd County, Kentucky
1850 Census, Robert's occupation is a Blacksmith. Elizabeth his wife and 4 children are living at home, Drusilla, Rebecca, Sarah Jane (my GG Grandmother), and Frank.
1860 Census the family consists of Betsey, his wife and the children are listed as Rebecca, Sarah (my GG Grandmother) Ben F., Eugene. Robert's occupation is a Blacksmith.
1870 Federal Census the family consists of wife Betsey, sons Benjamin, Eugene and William. One daughter, Almeda. His occupation is listed as Wagon Maker.
1880 census: Robert was a Blacksmith and Farmer. Almeda and William are the only children living at home but along with his wife Betsey they have 2 granddaughters living with them, Magnolia and Augusta Ellis. These are the children of Drusilla and Augstine Ellis.
Robert and Betsey Green had nine children, Dursilla, Rebecca Elizabeth, Sarah Jane, Frank H., Benjamin Franklin, Wilbert M., Almeda and William S.
Robert died in 1882 and Betsey must have moved to Kansas with her son William as they were found living in Lincoln County, Kansas in 1900 but by the 1910 census Matilda was living with her daughter Almeda Mead-Shields in Culver, Ottawa, Kansas. She died in 1915 and was buried in the Culver Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Matilda Green, 91 years old, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter in Culver. She left 123 descendants, among whom are six children and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Green came to Kansas in the pioneer days, and has been a widow since shortly after her arrival here.

Obituary
Betsy Matilda Mead was born April 9th 1894 on the Big Sandy River in Kentucky. Died in Culver Kansas August 22nd 1915 age 91 years 4 months and 13 days. She moved to southern Ind. at the age of five years, was married to Robert Green in 1840. Mr. Green died in 1882. She came to Kansas in 1882 and joined the Baptist church in childhood of which she never changed her membership always living a Christian life. In Grandma Green’s death we lose the oldest person in our community and one who has the largest number of descendants. She has six children living three boys and three girls they are Mrs. J. C. Hobson of Salina Mrs. J. M. Austin and B. F. Green of Culver, Eugene Green of Capron, Okla. Wm. Green of Lincoln Kans, and Mrs. J. M. Shields of Culver with whom grandma made her home, there are thirty nine grandchildren, seventy six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren making a total of one hundred and twenty six living descendants. The fifth generation which number five are Joanna K. Quincy daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Quincy of Oak Field New York, Alice Ealain Shank daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shank of Arlington Colo. Don Francis aud Ellis Wilson Houser children of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Houser of Wichita Kansas and Loren Wendell Austin son of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Austin of Culver Kans. The funeral services were held at the J. M. Shields home at 11 o'clock last Monday. The services were conducted by Rev. Hutchison of the Presbyterian church and Rev. Montgomery of the U. B. church interment was made in the Culver Union Cemetery.
