ST. GEORGE, UT -- Rulon (Boots) Cox, 87, died Monday, September 18, 2000 at his home in St. George, UT.
He was born February 11, 1913 in St. George to Henderson Elias Cox and Emma Rosetta Hunt.
He married Ida May Iverson; they had five children.
They were later divorced.
He married Lenora Phillips.
They were later divorced.
He married Rita Cox.
"According to Boots" they have been married 66 years (33 for him and 33 for her).
Boots was honored as the all-around-athlete for Dixie College in his youth.
He was one of the original members of the St. George City Volunteer Fire Department.
He drove the city's first fire-engine from Chicago to St. George.
He owned and operated "Boots Cox Dairy" for 42 years, and was the irrigation water master for St. George Valley fields for about 45 years.
Boots is survived by his wife: Rita C. Cox; and his children: Walter (Jeanenne) Cox; Mervyn (Sue) Cox; DeLoa Cox Keenan all of St. George, UT and Wendell (Pam) Cox of LaMesa, CA; 40 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all his brothers and sisters; and by a daughter: Mary Beth.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 23, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the St. George LDS 16th Ward Chapel, 550 East 700 South.
To honor Boots' request, there will be no public viewing, however a visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd.
Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
