Phyllis Jean Parling, age 94 of Stokesdale, NC and formerly of Midland, MI died Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, NC. She was born on September 18, 1928 in St. Johns, MI to the late Ersyl "Pete" and Marguerite (Davis) Gross. On September 11, 1948 she married Melvin Parling. They shared 48 years together before his death in May of 1997.
Phyllis and Melvin first lived in Freeland before moving to Midland in the early 1980's. Phyllis was employed as an accountant for Dow Corning retiring in 1988 after 23 years of service. After retirement they enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ where Phyllis won the woman's golf league one year and played softball until she was 80. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her mac and cheese and molasses cookies were always requested, especially by her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Stacey Elenbaas and Nicholas Tallmadge.
Private interment in the Lafayette Township Cemetery.
