Barnhill was past president of the Indianapolis Dental Society and was the society's executive director 15 years. He was secretary-treasurer of the Indiana State Dental Association two years and he was editor of the Journal of
the State Dental Association. Barnhill was founder and editor of the Journal of the Indianapois Dental Society.
He was coordinator of the dental section of the Marion County Health and Hospital Corp., a charter member of Community Hospital Board, a member of the board of trustees of the Indiana Tuberculosis Hospital, and a part-time dentist at the Indiana Girls School and Women's Prison.
Barnhill was a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps during World War I. He was a member of the American Legion and Veteranas of World War I.
He was a member of Westfield Masonic Lodge, Westfield Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Eagle Creek Evangelical Friends Church, Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, Police Athletic League, Society of Indiana Pioneers and DeMolay Foundation.
Barnhill is survived by a daughter, Edith Hamm of Indianapolis, a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
He was married to Maude Edwards Barnhill (2 Mar 1888 - 10
Sept 1955).
