She was born on October 22, 1930, in Oneida, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Katie (Bowers) Martens.
She was raised in Delaware County and attended Delhi school and graduated in 1949 from Edgewood High School.
Marie was united in marriage to Arvin "Keith" Harbaugh on September 16, 1949,at the Trinity Methodist Church in Edgewood. Together they farmed near Edgewood, Strawberry Point, and Mederville. Marie also worked with food service at the Starmont School and as a hostess at Osborne Conservation Center.
Marie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Sunny Ridge Club, and was a secretary for N.F.O. She enjoyed her card club, dancing, flowers, baking cinnamon rolls, camping, puzzles, family reunions, country music, and collecting strawberry items. Marie also enjoyed attending grandchildren's activities and Iowa Hawkeye games.
Survivors include her husband, Keith of Strawberry Point; three children, Patricia (Harry) Morley and Barbara (James) Hutchinson both of Strawberry Point; and Sandra (Gerald) Dennie of Winthrop; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three siblings, Carl Martens and Betty Knipper both of Edgewood, and Doris Lamb of Cedar Rapids; one brother-in-law, Robert (JoAnn) Harbaugh of Edgewood; and three sisters-in-law, Ivanelle Palmer and Darlene Harbaugh both of Strawberry Point; and Betty Harbaugh of Manchester.
Marie was preceded in death by two children, Christine at birth and Kenneth in 1977; her parents, Henry and Katie Martens; a great-grandson, C.J. Mahoney; one sister, Donna Belle Martens; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
