CLARKSVILE-Willie C. Holbrook of Clarksville, formerly a long-time resident of the Kensington in Cumberland, and formerly of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Akron, Ohio, died May 12, 1999.

Born Oct. 16, 1895, in Hickory, Ky., he was the son of the late Winfield Scott Holbrook and Cicero Dyer Holbrook of Hickory, Ky.

He also was preceded in death by his wife and the beloved mother of his sons, Pansy Marie (Allbritton) Holbrook; a son, Wallace Scott Holbrook; his wife of many years, Lela Miller Holbrook; five brothers; and four sisters.

Mr. Holbrook retired as a truck tire builder for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio, in 1960 after 45 years of service. He was a veteran of the Sixth Regiment of the United States Marine Corps in World War I. He was wounded during the war and received the Croix de Guerre from the French government for bravery during his service in the Marines. He was a member of the Loyalty Lodge F. & A.M. of Akron, and a former member of Goodyear Heights Methodist Church of Akron.

Surviving are two sons, William C. Holbrook Jr. and his wife Sophie of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert R. Holbrook and his wife Rita of Clarksville; nine grandchildren, Dr. Karen Holbrook of Frostburg, Dr. Billie Holbrook Shafer, Tucson, Debbi McCullough, Tucson, Lisa Lofthouse, Fayetteville, N.C., Sara Holbrook, Bay Village, Ohio, Faun Meyer, Fort Collins, Colo., Scott Holbrook and Stewart Holbrook, Clarksville, Kristin Bedford, Hilton Head, S.C.; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Holbrook will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Akron in the near future.

Any memorial may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
