He was born and raised in Edgefield District and was of those that first responded to the call of his suffering country. He identified himself in Captain Brook's Company, 7th Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers. He leaves a mother to weep, having three sons at the seat of war, and having lately lost her husband. He also leaves five brothers and two sisters.
