She graduated from Bonilla High School in 1943 and received a teaching certificate from Huron Teacher's College. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse near Hitchcock. Lois married Wendell Puffer on March 28, 1945. They farmed near Hitchcock all of their married life. Following Wendell's death in 1990, Lois moved into Hitchcock and to Redfield in 1997. Lois was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Lois will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who would do anything for her family and not ask for anything in return. Her optimistic view, contentment and the sense that "everything will work out" is the greatest memory she leaves behind.
Lois is survived by four sons: Donovan (Jo) Puffer of Talent, OR; Duane (Lila) Puffer of Redfield; Dean (Janis) Puffer of Aberdeen, SD; and Daniel (Julie) Puffer of Freemont, NE and two daughters: Joanne (Don) Kopp of Rapid City, SD and Diane (Jim) Stoley of Grand Forks, ND. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and their spouses and fifteen great grandchildren and their spouses, her sister Lola (Erv) Beyer of Huron, SD, her sister-in-law Francis Puffer of Hitchcock and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wendell and her brother Loren Poe.
Casketbearers will be Lois' grandchildren and great grandchildren.
