UNDERWOOD MAN DIES AT 82
Reno Artemus Rosenberger Ziegler of Underwood died April 30, 1994. He was 82. Mr. Rosenberger was born Feb. 3, 1912 in White Salmon, the eldest of six children, to F. Elizabeth Rosenberger and Israel R. Ziegler. He lived in Underwood for his entire life, attending a one-room school house during his early years.
In 1931 he graduated from Columbia High School in White Salmon and started logging at Gilmer the next day. He later worked for Walter Kock, logging in the Willard area. During a winter logging closure in 1934-35, he worked on the road construction of Highway 14 between Underwood and Cook. He purchased land adjoining his father's and on November 10, 1935 married Teresa Reinland. The couple built a home on their property and lived there for 37 years, raising five children. In 1935 Mr. Ziegler also went to work as a timber faller for Broughton Lumber Company and worked there until his retirement in 1969. Following retirement, Reno and Teresa sold their property on Underwood Heights and built a home overlooking the Columbia River and the Mt. Hood. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, cutting wood and hunting elk with his sons during his later years. Another interest was gardening and landscaping and family and friends remember the "shared bounty" from his farming. Mr. Ziegler was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Husum Hills Men's Golf Association and the Columbia Blue Seniors.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa, at home; sons, Clark, James and Kenneth, all    of Underwood; daughters, Betty Slocum of Randle and Linda Crego of BattleGround, brother, Leroy of White Salmon; sisters, Mamie Harris of Winchester Bay, Ore., Myrtle Hammond of Yucaipa, Calif., Esther Brower of Palm Springs, Calif., and Eva Frazer of White Salmon; 16 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 4 at the Park Center in White Salmon, followed by committal at the Chris-Zada Cemetery in Underwood. The family requests memorial contributions be given in Mr. Ziegler's name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, in care of St. Joseph Catholic Church, White Salmon.
