Gertrude Rich Jackson, 95, of Wilmington, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2010 at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center.

Gertrude was born December 8, 1914. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. L.B. Rich.

During her last days she was able to enjoy the company of many relatives and friends, some of which she had not seen for some time. For her 95th birthday she received Birthday Greeting from the White House.

In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her husband Willie A. Jackson, Sr.; a son, Willie A. Jackson, Jr.; sisters, May Belle Wolfe and Lillian Parks; brothers, James, Charlie, and Paul Rich; a grandson, Michael Jackson and beloved son-in-law, Robert E. Dennison.

Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Betty Dennison; a son, Bobby G. Jackson, Sr. (Gail); sisters, Louise Bakalar and Anne Ducote (Sam); grandchildren, Robert Dennison, Jr. (Kathleen), James Dennison (Oleta), both of Kansas, Richard Dennison (Donna), Debbie Wojcik (John) and Bobby G. "Toby" Jackson, Jr., all of Wilmington and Susan Hoffman (Bob) of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Jessie Rich of Wilmington and a brother-in-law, Joe Parks of Rocky Mount. "MeMa" had 8 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Jackson also had many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much and a very special friend and second daughter Mrs. Sheila Byrd.

Gertrude was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, accepting her Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was 19 years old.

She was a hostess for many years at Fisher's Restaurant and enjoyed her numerous regular customers who often became lifelong friends. She took care of her mother for many years until her death at age 95.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides on Station 3 at Brunswick Cove for their love and care of our mother. We also would like to thank Liberty Hospice, especially Tina Jackson, for all of their love and care. God Bless You All.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 2 PM with Pastor Donnie Lovette officiating with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park The family will be at the graveside 30 minutes before the service to greet friends.
