COOKEVILLE-Funeral services for Phillip Dwight Dodson, 51, of Baxter, will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, Feb 24, from the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Cassville.
The family will receive friends from 5-9 pm today, Monday, Feb 23, and after 10 am on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Dodson died on Sunday, Feb 22, 2004, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 27, 1952, in White County to Mary Vanwinkle Dodson of Sparta and the late, Arliss Dodson.
He was a member of Trinity Assembly Church and a member of The Lord's Army. Mr. Dodson was a veteran of the Air Force. He was a member of Bass Masters and was an avid outdoorsman. He was aide-de-camp to the governor for eight years. Mr. Dodson was retired from Wagner Electric in Sparta in 1990. He then developed the Baxter Flea Market. He and his wife operated Matlock & Dodson Insurance, better known as the Insurance Doctors.
His family includes his wife, Jo Ann Lafever Dodson of Baxter; a son and daughter-in-law, Shannon Dwight and Christie Dodson of Montgomery, AL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tory and Germont Wade of Hermitage, TN, and Tanya Leftwich and Jeff Upchurch of Cookeville, TN; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Hugh and Barbara Dodson of Lebanon, TN and Mickey Dodson of Sparta, TN; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Morgan (Andy) Anderson of Sparta, TN, Sylvia and Carmon Cook of Lebanon, TN, and Cathy and Lawerance Glenn of McMinnville, TN; eight grandchildren, Kelsey and Katie Leftwich, Joshua Hunter Upchurch, Savannah and Kage Matlock, all of Cookeville, TN, Cameron, Caleb and Jack Phillip Wade, all of Hermitage, TN; four nieces; six nephews; special family member Marsha Dodson of Chattanooga, TN; and special friends, Sam and Nyoka Lamie, Steve and Linda Stephens, all of Cookeville, TN, Wayne and Jerrie Hester of Murfreesboro, TN, and Don and Ann Martin of Hermitage, TN.
Pallbearers will be Jai Dodson, Scotty Anderson, Greg and Mark Dodson, Darrell and Darren Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Hester, Don Martin, John Maddux, Peter Magura and Jerry Burgess.
Rev. Gordon Lee will officiate at the services.
