LEWIS BARLIEB
Following a lingering illness of a complication of diseases, superinduced by diabetes, Lewis Barlieb, husband of Sarah nee Meckes Barlieb, a plumber by trade, passed away on Thursday at 11:50 p.m. at the family residence, 77 West Spruce Street, aged 58 years, 9 months and 8 days. He had been ill for about eight years.
Mr. Barlieb was born at Kunkletown, Monroe County, on Sept. 27, 1875, a son of Enoch and Diana Barlieb.
Before coming to Bethlehem fourteen years ago, he was superintendent of the Barlieb Union Sunday School at Kunkletown for fifteen years. He was a member of St. Pauls Reformed Church in whose activities he was much interested before he was taken ill. He was a member of Kunkletown Lodge No. 104, I.O.O.F.; Palmerton Chamber No. 86, Knights of Friendship, and of the former Loyal Order of Moose of Bethlehem. After the latter's abandonment, he was taken in as a member of Mooseheart Home, at Elkhart, Ind. His wife had been married before.
There remains a step-son, Ray Abbott, and three step-daughters, Geraldine C., Mrs. Floyd Ritter and Mrs. Howard Koch, all at home; one grandchild, one brother, J. Wilson Barlieb, of Kunkletown, and one sister, Miss Ellen Christman, of Nazareth.
Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the family home and 2 o'clock in Christ Reformed Church. Interment will be made in the family plot in Memorial Park Cemetery.
