Martin L. Hush, 88, of Sykesville, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born March 26, 1921, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Bertha V. Arrington Hush. He was the husband of Sue Crisp Hush, his wife of 61 years.

He had been a carpenter for most of his life and enjoyed woodworking. He was a longtime member of Oakland United Methodist Church in Sykesville and a member of Freedom Lodge No. 112, A.F. & A.M. for more than 50 years. He was a veteran of the Army, 324th Engineer Battalion, having served in World War II. He had a great devotion to his family and was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son and daughter-in-law James A. and Virginia D. Hush, of Marietta, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law Susan H. and Anthony E. Harris, of Elkridge; a brother, Norman Hush, of Everett, Pa.; and grandchildren Martin A. Harris, of Elkridge, and Allison M. and Stefanie E. Hush, of Marietta. He was predeceased by siblings Marvin E. Hush, Ethel Franklin and Esther Wilson, Jean Scitticat and Hazel Garrett.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
