Lester D. Hanks, 83, of 542 E. Center St., died at 12:25 a.m. today in Decatur and Macon County Hospital. He was born Aug. 14, 1876 in Macon County, the son of J. E. and Mary Patterson Hanks. Mr. Hanks lived here most of his life and worked as a Pennsylvania Railroad engineer for 45 years. He retired in 1947. He was a member of Macon Lodge 8, AF&AM, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the First English Evangelist Lutheran Church. He married Clyde Fox in Shelbyville in 1900, but she died two years later. In 1904 he married Cora A. Miller in Terre Haute, Ind. Mr. Hanks leaves his wife; a son, Clyde R. Hanks, Creve Coeur; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren and brother, R. E. Hanks, Urbana. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Monson Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Macon Lodge 8, AF&AM will conduct Masonic rites.
