Son of John Henry Hopkins, first Bishop of Vermont. University of Vermont, A.B. 1839, Master's 1845. General Theological Seminary, 1850. Ordained dea­con in 1850 and priest in 1872. He was single, and never married. Rec­tor of Trin­i­ty Church, Platts­burg, New York, and Christ Church in Will­iams­port, Penn­syl­van­ia. Rev. Hopkins wrote both the words and music of the now-famous Christmas carol, "We Three Kings of Orient Are," 1857. He was a man of many talents: an author, an illustrator of books, a designer of stained glass windows, and a clergyman of the Episcopal faith.
