Shelburne Falls
Death of Edwin Bardwell
The community was shocked Thursday morning by the sudden death of Edwin A. Bardwell. He retired Wednesday night apparently in his usual health but about 12 o'clock his wife was awakened by his unnatural breathing and upon investigation found him to be in critical condition. The doctor was at once summoned, but he expired before the doctor arrived, heart disease being the cause of death.
Mr. Bardwell was the son of Apollos Bardwell and was born in Shelburne Falls 74 years ago, having lived here his entire life in his native town, and had been a faithful employee with Lamson & Goodnow Mfg. Co., for more than 50 years , doing his usual work on the day of his death.
He was twice married, his first being Miss Nancy Ross, who lived but a few years. He married later Miss Esther Roberts whom survives him, together with their three sons, Frederick, a telegraph operator in Springfield, Allen, employed in the H.H. Mayhew Co.. and Frank, a civil engineer in New York city; also a sister, Mrs. R. N. Allen of Buckland. His twin brother, Darwin A. Bardwell, to whom he was strongly attached, died only a few years ago. The funeral will be attended to-morrow at 2 o'clock from the house on Main street, Rev. R. E. Hunt officiating.
