Mr. Gilmer Troy Collins, 74, of 137 Eisenhower Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, May 4, 2009, at his home. Mr. Collins was born April 5, 1935, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Troy Robert and Vadie Mae Hooker Collins. He retired from Bassett Furniture Inc. and was a member of Believers Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Etta Mae Inman Collins of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Collins and June and Jason Randall, all of Mount Airy; a son, Gary Collins of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren and four spouses, Justin and Jennifer Collins, Brandon and Margo Collins, Daniel and Carla Bowman, Stephanie and Derek Watson, Amanda Lambert, David Lambert, and Josh Lambert, all of Mount Airy, and Jessica and Kenny Hall of Ararat, VA; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nellie Johnson of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Sue Smith; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lewis. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Believers Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dewayne Sands officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Believers Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Moody Funeral Services to assist the Collins family with the funeral expenses.
