George R. Winship Sr., of Jacksonville, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2002, at the age of 85 years and 18 days,
He was born in Stamford, Texas, on April 7, 1917, to Robert Winship Sr. and Julia Winship.
On June 5, 1941, he married Willie Louise Lane. Mr. Winship was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was an avid amateur radio operator for 32 years, holding the amateur station call sign, W5BKM. Mr. Winship had lived in Jacksonville for the past 26 years.
Preceded in death by: parents; brother, Robert N. Winship Jr.
Survivors include: his wife, Willie Louise Lane Winship; son, George Winship Jr. (Nan); daughter, Linda Green (Ron); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. The Rev. Duane Farris officiated the services.
Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Green, Chris Green, Ronnie Green, Nathan Winship, Andrew Winship, and Kevin Longoria.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the 7290 Traffic Net, Texas Traffic Net, Central Gulf Coast Hurricane Net, and the 75 Meter Interstate Sideband Net.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Karnes City or to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701.
