Charles L. Mayer, 78, of 404 West Washington Street, died at his home at 2:10 o'clock yesterday morning after a lingering illness. He was a retired soldier, having served in the Spanish-American War and in the Philippines and Hawaii. He retired from active Army life in 1898. He was a Mason, thirty-second degree, at Columbus, Ohio.
Surviving are the wife, Edith; two sons, Charles Mayer of Columbus, Ohio, and William Mayer of Toledo; two daughters, Mrs. James McCay of Detroit, and Mrs. Charles Shoemaker of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers and three sisters.
Services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Meeks mortuary, the Rev. Wm. Sayers in charge. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 2 o'clock this afternoon. Pallbearers will be members of the Muncie Lodge of Masons, Robert Whinrey, Eno Nation, Harley Manring, William O'Neil, E.R. Oesterle and William G. Shingledecker.
