Father Of Local Man Interred At Silver Creek
Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Langston in the death of Mr. Langston's father, Hiram Virgil Langston, 84, of Old Silver Creek at 7:45 P.M. Wednesday, February 18. Mr. Langston sucumbed at the home of a son, Frank Langston at Old Silver Creek ater an illness of several months duration.
Mr. Langston a beloved lifetime member of his community, was a faithful member of Old Silver Creek Baptist Church and served as a deacon there for more than forty years. He served on the Board of Trustees of Silver Creek School for twenty years, and was active in any rffairs (sic affairs) to the interst of his community. His parents ; Lewis and Maranda Armstrong Langston were among early residents of that section.
He was a retired farmer-lumberman, having farmed in his home community and been engaged in logging business in his active years.
His wife preceded him in death in August, 1952.
Funeral services for Mr. Langston were held at ten o'clock Friday morning from the Old Silver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McGee, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Harold Harris.
Interment was in Old Silver Creek cemetery under the direction of Saulter Funeral Home of Prentiss. Nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers.
Surviving are six sons, Ray Langston of Columbia, Frank, Kirby, and Fred Langston, all of Silver Creek; and Leo and Arno Langston, both of Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Prestridge of Monticello and Mrs. Rod Rogers of Prentiss; one brother, Dolph Langton of Hattiesburg; eighteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
