Arthur was born to Herman Adolf and Mary Becker Eitel, immigrants who came to the US from Hamburg, Germany, marrying in Philadelphia in 1894.

A painter by trade, Arthur came to Rutherford County, NC in the 1920s at the suggestion of Drs. Henry Norris and Montgomery Biggs, who had founded Rutherford Hospital (and who were also from Philadelphia), and met Helen Griffin, who was a nurse there. They were married May 16, 1928, and had five children.

Had all that not happened, I wouldn't be the one writing this... :)
