William Cooper

William Cooper died of asthma at his home in Ponca, Neb. February 23, 1901, aged 63 years, 10 months and 18 days.
Deceased was born in Liverpool, Onendaga county, N.Y. April 10, 1837. He lived there until 18 years of age, when he moved to Polk county, Wis. While there, at this early age, he experienced religion and unified with the Methodist church. Shortly after this he moved to Husten county, Minn and in 1862 he entered the service of his country in Co. F., 10th Calvary and remained until he received an honorable discharge.In the year 1865 he went to St. Louis and was married to Miss Catherine Wallace and after remaining there a short time he returned to Minnesota. From there he removed to Iowa and thence to Nebraska, having lived in this state, near Hartington, for the past 16 years or until about a year ago, since which time he resided in Ponca until the time of his death. Mr. Cooper was the father of eight children, seven of whom, with his wife and brothers, remain to mourn his death. He was a kind husband and father, a consistent Christian and a good neighbor. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the Grand Army performing the military rites and Rev. Chas. Hatchins conducting the religious services. The remains were laid to rest in the Ponca cemetery.
