John was the youngest child of G.W. Ard and Sallie Whitten Ard. Named for his uncle, John Richardson.
He began his adult life as a Stationery Salesman and later took a job in Macon with a printing company. There he met and married Lillian Garrett, daughter of Benjamin and Josephine Garrett.
They had one child, Sarah Dell Ard.
John died in 1923 and was buried in the Ard plot in East Side Cemetery, Lumpkin, Georgia. His wife, Lillian, is buried beside him.
