Civil Engineer John was elected County Surveyor for the newly established Garrett County Maryland and held that office for sixteen years. John Harned prepared an Ancestral Chart of The Harned Family.

West Liberty, Ia., Oct. 15 - The remains of John Harned were brought to this place Wednesday evening and taken to East Oakridge cemetery for interment. The deceased passed away at Montezuma, Iowa, Monday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. The cause of his death was due to paralysis, from which he had suffered for the past year. At the time of his death he was eighty three years of age. Mr. Harned for a number of years lived on a farm southwest of West Liberty and will be remembered by many of the old settlers. It was his request to be brought to this place for burial beside his wife and mother, who died a number of years ago. Deceased is survived by a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Alice Porter of Montezuma,Ia., and Mrs. Brown, of Davenport, and two sons, Charles Harned, of Nebraska, and Joseph E. Harned of Oakland, Maryland. The remains were accompanied to West Liberty by his wife, two daughters and one son, Joe, of Maryland.
