Charles H. Burton, born May 1863 and died 1923 and was buried in Elk Spring Cemetery, Section No. 5 in Monticello. He married Anna L. Tate, born 1869 and died 1955 and was buried next to Charles.

Wayne County, Kentucky Census Records: In 1900, Charles Burton was age 37, living in Monticello, Precinct No.1 (house #8). He stated his occupation was a "mail carrier." He had been married eleven years to Anna, age 31. Son, Johnnie was age 8 and sister Carra/Carrie was 7.

In 1910, Charles H. Burton was age 48, living on North Main Street in Monticello as a "mail contractor and livery man." Had been married for 21 years. Anna L. was age 41; son John C. was 18 and daughter Carrie age 17. A Black cook was living in the house named Sallie Redman, age 25.

In 1920 precinct No.1 (#135), Charles H. Burton was age 56; he was the "manager of a mail service." Wife Anna L. was 50; both of their parents were born in Kentucky. Living in house was a nephew named John M. Burton, age 7.

Their son, John Charles Burton was born 2 June 1891 in Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky and died 6 May 1973. He was buried next to his parents. John married 22 October 1917 to Nannie A. Bartleson, born 1893 in Monticello and died in 1965.

In 1920, John was listed on the Census as a Automobile Mechanic. (#143), age 28. Nannie was 26.

Charles Hugh Burton, native of Estill County, Kentucky moved to Wayne County in the 1880's to work for his Uncle, Mack Burton. Married Anna Tate, the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Stephen Tate. They had two children, and a nephew, John Milton Burton, also made his home with them. Charles drove the stagecoach and carried the U.S. mail between Monticello and Burnside. The stagecoach ran from 1896-1915.
